What Do I Consume?
Entertainment
During my spare time I find myself indulging in various media. My favourite type of media so happens to be music. I listen to it regularly, mostly to myself. The music I listen to is mostly the genre of RnB, Rap and soul. I listen to artists such as. The Internet (a sub group of Odd Future), Pryde, Tink and Raury. Overall I would say that I'm a fan of 90's music listening to people such as Lil Kim, Common and Mary J Blige. I share this love of music with my two close friends. I believe that my love of music stemmed from me being a musician alongside my two friends. When it comes to doing my hair films are a huge staple in passing the time. Before coming engorged with media I found that I watch a lot of passée films and didn't really appreciate the making of the film. However now I watch films which are connected a lot more to my culture such as, The Help, The Colour Purple and Raisin In the Sun. With these films I genuinely enjoy them as the depict a story with I can genuinely connect with and empathise with. However I enjoy comedies such White Chicks and We're the Millers in spite of White Chicks failure at box office it was seen to be a cult hit and genuine a cheap a laugh. Hopefully soon I'll be able to watch Me Earl and the Dying Girl; seen a comedy-drama it takes an unconventional approach in talking about terminal illness. I have a genuine interest in the film and have been following it for a while. I just want to see how they handle it. TV really isn't a necessity to me, I normally catch up the majority of TV shows I watch, at the weekend. I'm a big fan of the soap EastEnders. Though in recent years there story lines have become bland and the aspect of real life story telling has virtually become non-existent, I find it hard to resist watching, I believe this is because watching and talking about soaps is the only thing I do and have in common with my family. I find that I'm into reality TV. Watching a lot of lifetime shows shows Dance Moms and Bring it! In addition I watch a lot of TLC shows such as Gypsy sister, Return to the Amish and Breaking Amish. I find that I like these shows purely because it is based on people lives. I also enjoy having an insight to how other cultures operate. I also find that I watch a lot of American TV old and new. For example I watch again reality TV shows such as the franchise of Love & Hip-Hop (New York, Atlanta and LA). Even though this franchise is seen as damaging to the black community I still watch it because of the music elements to it. I also watch Bad Girls Club (BGC) purely because I find it entertaining. I also enjoy black 80's 90's 00's sitcoms such as Good Times, The Jefferson's, Whats Happening, Different Strokes, Sister Sister. Smart Guy, One on One and My Wife and Kids. During my spare time I also use various apps to connect with friends mostly Snap chat.
Information
Social media isn't particularly useful to me. In first creating Facebook I did use it to connect and talk to friends and family abroad. However over time I now use it to gain information. Being very keen to keep up to dates with crisis's going on the world and being interested in the new movement #BlackLivesMatter, Facebook helped me to keep up through liking other pages. I also use Google as my answers for general queries.
Research and Education
The career path I want to go into is Radio Broadcasting. So I listen to radio to develop my own technique. Listening to urban stations such Choice FM (Now Capital Xtra) because I want to specialise in urban radio. Being an A-level student I do have to read a lot of books. I mostly only read books because of my main subject sociology. Spoken word is seen as a cousin to poetry however Spoken Word talks about current topics. I watch and listen to these poems as a way of building a foundation of things that I'm interested in and then follow my own research from there.
Who Provides The Content I Consume?
Who provides the content you consume? (institution)
Mostly I find I watch a lot of shows that the BBC have to offer. I think that this because it is more widely accessible. For example, the BBC have an app which broadcasts all of the shows, you can access this online and on your phone. Alongside their new feature being able to download shows and watch them when they aren't connected to internet will truly prove why it is quite popular. I'm a big fan of Netflix watching it with my friends also I put it on for background noise in addition to YouTube. Who do I consume with? (social context)
Normally I consume this media with my two friends. However I prefer to consumes these alone when doing my work, I use videos to keep me on track.
Where do I consume? (environmental context)
I download a lot of movies as I travel in my weekends and holidays. So I watch it when I'm out travelling. Normally I watch in my bedroom as this is where I spend the most time in my weekdays. However my friends and I have a monthly tradition where at the end of the month we watch movies together (as we all go to different schools around the country) and at the 4 month we all go to the cinema.
How do you access the media you consume? (devices)
Everything I watch is primarily on my laptop and mobile it is only rarely I ever watch the television.
Really good detail, Bibianna, especially in respect of the media content that you consume. This is a clear profile of a media consumer. You do need to read your work through because you make errors at times which slightly restrict clear communication (remember that communication is an important part of your assessment).
ReplyDeleteSir I have updated this post and corrected places where I have made mistakes. Hopefully this is better.
