Research Into Magazine Articles.

When looking at Magazine articles revolving around artist. I immediately thought of Chance The Rapper. In growing in popularity, I thought he'd be a very good idea to analyse. Especially with his group, hip-hop collective turned brand turned movement 'The Social Experiment.' You can see that it is a recurring theme in his appearance particularly talking about in his spread in GQ magazine.

The Social Experiment.
Chance the Rapper is the head of the group he calls 'The Social Experiment.' a hip-hop collective focused on reviving the real message behind hip-hop. By placing a bit of effort such as theatrics back into the genre's live performance.

The idea behind this is to have a generation who'd rather snap chat and Instagram all of their experiences i.e. concerts to now live in the moment and create something that cannot be recreated so that every experience is never the same.

This ideology took a turn. What once was a group name turned into a movement. Promoting a message of positivity and challenging young black youths to go against the social construction of how they should act and do something productive with Chancelor Bennett (Chance the Rapper) himself only being 22 years old.

With this movement becoming very popular a brand followed. With merchandise such as jackets, jumpers and hats being produced 'The Social Experiment' become somewhat of a motif for Bennett. Wearing the hat on the cover of magazines and in magazine spreads. To then wearing when preforming. Leading to and increase of interest in his new concept.

As you can see the common theme is 'The Social Experiment.' logo on the hat. I want to do something similar with my products. showing that my artist stands for something.

Research Into Album Cover

When researching album covers of an artist, I looked particularly for synergy amongst the images. I particularly looked at the artist Jhene Aiko as she is one of the main inspirations she had several images which referred me back to synergy. By looking at the visuals for both of her albums and single release for 'Bed Peace.' ft. Childish Gambino they presented similarities across all three even though they were all done at different times.

As you can see a common denominator of each of these images is the way in which her name is signed. For example her name 'Jhene Aiko' is signed the same for the single release of 'Bed Peace' the album 'Sail Out' and the promo poster all include the similarity in the way she signs her name. This shows me that it is a nice continuity revolving around this album. A nice way to include a connection in my digipack would be to include the same font showing that it is somewhat about the same thing.

Another similarity is peace. This brings a personal touch from Aiko as she herself believes in a life of peace. For example, the peace signal was shown in the images. Even the same sign was not used in the single release the word peace still remains. I was thinking about using the same idea with my digipack. Through the use of bandanas, however, it just an idea it's unknown whether it would work in practicality.
Lastly another similarity is seen in the album cover and the promotion poster is the use of ships. The album itself is called 'Sail Out' which brings it connections to ships. This seems to be a common theme.

Analysis Of Influential Music Videos.

My song choice for my music video is Tink's 'I Like'. In this planning stage, I decided to analyse two music video's which I drew inspiration from. These being both Jhene Aiko 'Bed Peace'. The reason which I chose this video is because of the similarities the Tink and Jhene Aiko have. For example, to some extent, both Jhene Aiko and Tink are quite abstract artists. This means that with every visual you see there be a multitude of reasoning's behind them. I specifically chose to adapt Jhene Aiko's visual ideas to this song because they sort of have the same feel.
